April, new menu, cracking music & burlesque political satire….

Spring is definitely here now and we’re enjoying the sun’s rays hitting our beautiful garden again. Lots of people coming to enjoy a cappuccino and a newspaper in the afternoon, or a nice lunch in the sunshine!

We’ve got plenty of things planned for this month, amongst them the launch of our brand new Spring menu, put together by our head chef Nana. This month we’re taking a fresher, lighter approach, moving away from wintery stodge (delicious though it is…) and towards the delectable veg that we have in season at the moment – we’ll be one of the very first places to get new season English asparagus once it’s ready for eating!

We can’t share the menu quite yet, but we CAN share with you a few highlights, such as our roasted golden beetroot starter, which comes with a delicious salad of chicory, spring truffles, artichokes and parmesan shavings! We also love the previews we’ve been having of the ramiro red peppers stuffed with cous cous, halloumi and fresh parsley, served with purple sprouting broccoli, which has just come into season. Our desserts are also keeping it light and fresh, such as the caramelised carpaccio of pineapple with cracked black pepper and a mango and passion fruit sorbet.

If you fancy something more filling and traditional, we’ve still got our Sunday roast menu each week from 12-9pm. Join us on Easter Sunday for a special of West Country lamb, straight from Devon! Just visit our website to make a booking with us.

Music-wise, it’s another month of solid festival bands from the UK, France, Spain and beyond, with a smattering of cabaret and theatre thrown in for good measure! Highlights would have to be the eclectic mashup of trance folk band Kangaroo Moon with bluegrass legends Dr. Bluegrass & the Illbilly 8 and Glastonbury favourite DJ Rach Speakeasy on the decks on the 18th. We’re also really excited about the Balkan Gypsy themed night on the 24th headed up by Italian showstoppers Barbarella’s Bang Bang! Jingle Django are bringing their music collective all the way from Madrid to support and it’s the grandaddy of all things Balkan Sacha Dieu DJing till late to make it a really good one.

Other picks include Les Trois Coups – a hilarious French band of talented musicians who have lost the plot in the best way possible. They combine theatre, French circus and music to make a show that is always entertaining – this will be their third year in a row visiting us on their European tour. PLUS it’s FREE and on St. George’s Day – what better way to celebrate  than with a bonkers French band! Also, you can’t miss the Bohemianauts Cabaret on the 30th. This hilariously subversive evening takes on the theme of the elections this month, with the parties being represented by various burlesque and cabaret performers (with a puppeteer representing UKIP of course…)

That’s all from us this month. Remember that we’re open every day from 10:30am, so come and enjoy spring sunshine in the garden with us. See you for a drink and a dance very soon!

Here’s to a fun summer ahead !

March at Magic Garden Pub

March at Magic Garden Pub and we’ve certainly got a “Spring” in our step! (Get it? OK. No more puns. Promise!) Not only have we launched our brand spanking new website – we’ve also lined up some pretty delectable dishes and nights out for this month.

Keep your eyes peeled for Superherojam with Terra Viva on the 6th – Superherojam really impressed all the staff at the last gig (think Pharrell Williams meets funky 80’s Prince, but with super hero outfits!) and Terra Viva are sure to deliver with their infectious fusion of gypsy, Italian folk, jazz and rock.

Another particularly exciting night coming up is Billy Rowan AKA the Undercover Hippy with Mama Kasbah and the Loki DJs on the 14th! Famous for their energetic shows at festivals all over Europe and the UK, the Undercover Hippy is set for stardom thanks to their catchy songs with hilarious and often politically-charged lyrics. Don’t miss this big Saturday night out with support from rumba, ska, reggae, balkan and Latin American group Mama Kasbah plus the mischievous Loki DJs on the decks after till the early hours! Careful to not overdo it though, as the next day is none other than Mother’s Day…

Mother’s Day is just before Paddy’s Day, this year falling on Sunday the 15th. We’ve got lunch covered thanks to head chef Nana – he’s sorted out a delicious and affordable menu of 2 courses for £19.50 or 3 courses for £23, featuring the best of our Sunday roasts (Cornish Lamb, 12 Hour Free Range Pork Belly, Scottish Rump Beef, etc) as well as some hearty veggie and fish options. Treat your Mum to a caramelised lemon tart or a sticky sticky toffee pudding – she deserves it after all those years of smelly socks and sulking!

Email us to make a booking at info@magicgardenpub.com, or give Keith a call Mon-Fri from 10am to 6pm on 0207 622 4844. He’ll sort out a lovely table in the restaurant or conservatory for you and Mummy. Boxcar Joe Strouzer will be playing the Sunday blues from 8pm if you fancy hanging out with us after your slap-up meal.

Next up it’s St. Patrick’s Day, the day on which we celebrate Saint Pat and general Irishness with music, booze and general “craic”, on Tuesday the 17th of March. When the owner of the pub is Irish, you know we’re gonna be doing it right. The Guinness will be flowing all day, complemented by the authentic Irish menu that our chef has organised for the occasion. Like your oysters cold with a Tabasco/shallot vinaigrette? Or hot with a creamy Guinness sauce? As a prequel to tucking into our fancy Bacon and Cabbage (Ham Hock with Crispy Champ) or Irish Stew of course…

Our plans to fly in Shane MacGowan for the day were sadly vetoed, however we’ve managed to snag the amazingly sultry and husky-voiced Alice Phelps for the evening! Alice plays harp with a full band, keeping it nice and folky, yet with forays into more modern territory that sets her apart from the rest. Come and enjoy a twist on the traditional, with Alice playing from about 8pm.

This is just a snippet of the events that we have on every month – with up to five nights of music a week (and most of them free entry) there’s something for everyone at the Magic Garden this March. Take a look at our events page for full info and come visit soon!
