Trans Siberian March Band Album Launch with Delicatessen + DJ Kobayashi!

October 21, 2016 @ 9:00 pm - October 22, 2016 @ 2:00 am

£5 – £8

Balkan brass party-starters the Trans-Siberian March Band are a colourful explosion of flamboyant, high-octane performances and musical miscellany – a fearsome fourteen-piece blend of brass, clarinets, sax, percussion, vocals and guitar.

We play riotous Balkan, Gypsy and Turkish tunes, up-tempo Russian drinking songs and even upper-tempo Klezmer, with a hint of hip hop for good measure. Sometimes we write originals about cheese pies.

Highlights from the band’s strange and wonderful nine-year history include shows at Glastonbury, the Royal Albert Hall, WOMAD, Kensington Palace, HMV Forum and The Roundhouse, as well as recording at Abbey Road and Air Studios.

Always open to adventure, TSMB put together a truly unique collaboration project with hiphop scratch turntablist DJ Yoda which ran for four years and proved a firm festival favourite (main stages at Camp Bestival, Shambala and more). Tour destinations have included Austria, Hungary, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Italy and Georgia. The band also curated a series of events from 2014-2016, holding a monthly residency at Shoreditch arts hub Rich Mix which included guest bands, workshops, food or talks. Join them as they launch their album at the Magic Garden on Friday the 21st of October!
“…a hugely entertaining collaborative show… Lively and witty, they proved to be perfect festival crowd-pleasers.” — The Times, WOMAD Review

Delicatessen is a seven-piece London based band, playing instrumental music and songs from the Balkan and Mediterranean regions and beyond. From Gypsy to Klezmer, Sephardic to Rebetiko, Yiddish to Arabic and Turkish, their aim is to delight their audiences with a musical feast from East and West. The band’s line-up includes violin, accordion, oud, guitar, bass, darbuka, cajon, tablas and vocals.

DJ Kobayashi’s musical styles vary from Swing, Rhythm & Blues, Oldies, Balkan & Gypsy to Electro Swing. A resident in many London hotspots, you may also know him from Gypsy Hill – the latest project to come from London DJs/producers: DJ Kobayashi and Herbert Newbert. where they bring together the balls and the brass from the Balkans, surf-rock Mediterranean guitar lines, Arabic & Jewish melodies, massive bass-lines and a whole heap of electronics, scratching and beats.
