Gypsy Hill + Mama Jerk & The Lady Fingers + John Fairhurst + Loki DJs

May 7, 2016 @ 9:00 pm - May 8, 2016 @ 2:00 am

These guys play an intoxicating mix of Balkan brass, Mediterranean surf rock, ska & swing. Featuring guitars, horns, tuba, a scratch DJ and a mix of live and electronic beats, Gypsy Hill effortlessly mix the traditional with a uniquely modern sound.

Producers DJ Kobayashi and Herbert Newbert have taken the project from studio to stage, gradually growing the band and honing their high-energy live hows. Their burgeoning CV includes remixes for the likes of Balkan Beat Box and Al Jawala and a special feature on Ninja Tune’s acclaimed ‘Ninja Jamm’ app. On the latter appearing alongside electronic music royalty such as Coldcut, Mr Scruff, Bonobo and many more of the Ninja Tunes roster.

‘…This has to be one of my best finds of the last year.’ – The Oxford Culture Review

‘An exciting reflection of what a multiethnic and multicultural city can inspire musically.’ – Rhythm Passport

Mama Jerk and the Lady Fingers have spent a year mixing all the music they love into a Reggae Dub Gypsy Chanson Blues Funk implosion….dense, fun, good to dance to and great to drink to! Last year saw them play Boomtown Fair and  Secret Garden Party to great success. Wonderfully deranged with loads of soul, and a MUST SEE live band!

Wigan native John Fairhurst has been honing his craft on the road combining his passions for people and music for years. The result is an awe inspiring wall of sound rooted in his northern blues background with gritty mournful deep-south attitude and a voice to carry it home.

Loki DJs reside at The Magic Garden where you can skank out to their funky riffs phat pack drums and Low Key sub bass. Watch out for mischievous DJ sets from Mike Freear, Kirk Holland (Boundary) and Stirzaker (Slamboree)
