Lapis Lazuli Album Launch + Oneirhythm + DJ Special Terry
November 18, 2016 @ 9:00 pm - November 19, 2016 @ 2:00 am£5 – £8
Lapis Lazuli is a multi-genre fusion band from Canterbury combining Funk, Progressive, Psychedelic, Fusion, Rock, Latin, Balkan and Afrobeat styles. Join them as they launch their new album at the Magic Garden!
Lapis Lazuli formed in Canterbury almost a decade ago, slowly grafting their sound from a world-funk atmosphere to something more symphonic and grandiose. As the line-up underwent some changes over the years, the band have organised themselves since 2012 when they self-released their debut albums ‘Reality Is’ and ‘Extended Play’ on CD, encompassing their percussion player at the time that also allowed for horn sections and layers of synth.
In 2014 the band released ‘Alien/Abra Cadaver’ on CD, which had taken 2 years to write on behalf of ‘Alien’ being a 40 minute opus tune and ‘Abra Cadaver’ a 20 minute “latin psyche-fest”. A year later, gripped by grassroots French label Celebration Days Records, the band re-released ‘Alien’ on a limited vinyl run, as they went about readying to record their newest work.
Come 2016, and the band now have the preorders up for their latest LP; ‘Wrong Meeting’ – a three-20-minute-tune feast of alternative funk, space rock, prog, world jazz and psychedelic landscapes. Again through Celebration Days Records, the album will be released on CD and a double-disk vinyl containing bonus material on Side D!
“But this? This is something different. It’s crazy. It’s energetic. It’s diverse. And it’s plain fantastic – Stephen Morris, Rock Kent
“A mighty sound — compelling, engaging and (just what I like) complex without being soulless. ” – Matthew Watkins, The Spring
“Alien/Abra Cadaver is inventive and charming and also challenging and exciting” – Owen Davies, DPRP
