King Nommo + Baldo Verdú + Gentle Mystics Sound System ft. Elian Gray

April 1, 2016 @ 9:00 pm - April 2, 2016 @ 2:00 am

King Nommo brings together a collective of Brighton based musicians that maintain the raw energy and power of early, authentic instrumental afrobeat. In 2012 this troupe of highly experienced musicians came together to compose original Afro-influenced music.

Formed from members of bands such as Resonators, Kalakuta Millionaires, King Porter Stomp, Los Albertos and Oscillator, this wide blend of musical influences and experiences have enabled King Nommo to evolve rapidly into a unique sound.

Baldo Verdú y su Tonto Malembe is a London-based group of five musicians whose enthusiasm around certain political issues was not —and is currently not being— well received by their governments. Established in 2014, this Breakfast Club of Exiles consists of three Venezuelans (Olbrich, Rojas and Verdú), a South African (Bailey) and an Englishman (Goymour).

Lead by its founder Baldo Verdú, a songwriter, guitarist and percussionist with life-long experience in Venezuelan traditional rhythms as well as in genres as diverse as rock, funk and tropicália. These influences combined with the different musical backgrounds of each member of the group (and a hint of psychedelia!) result in a sound that has been drawing a lot of attention from audiences as a dance floor fire igniter and also as a thought-provoking discourse.

Gentle Mystics are notorious for instigating big party vibes and their DJ shows are no exception.

Rib shaking basslines and otherworldly rhythms; an insane selection of afrobeat, cumbia, disco, psychedelic, folk, funk, soul, hip-hop, breaks…cheese…Prepare for a 2.5 hour mega trip!

PLUS! Gentle Mystics and DefDFires rapper Elian Gray performs his solo works and drops freestyles with GM sound system
