Joe Strouzer’s 3 Piece Chicken Orchestra + Corneilius
December 1, 2016 @ 9:00 pm - 11:30 pmFree entry!
A harmonica player, blues shouter and guitar picker, Joe Strouzer sings songs from his travels from Newcastle to New Orleans and a hell of a lot of places in between. His driving resonator guitar is coupled with true harmonica voodoo and biting songwriting of modern trouble, heartpains, moonlit trysts, drinking and devilment, peppered with a rich history of blues. He’ll be joined by two of the finest musicians around, Clementine Brown on fiddle and Joao Mello on his Tennessee Rose and saxophone. Its Joe’s last show before heading to Newcastle for the winter and New Orleans for the spring.
Corneilius plays with a loopstation, building layered tracks of what sounds like a full band production, all from the immediate live performance with just his guitar, an FX pedal and a microphone, all plugged into the loopstation.
His music is folkish with a touch of funk, a splash of reggae, his lyrics are up beat and hugely optimistic, some would say inspiring! His audiences usually end up singing along to his huge vocal choruses, for he has a voice that is deeply resonant, beautifully controlled and warm… and a way with hook lines that are truly memorable!
A superb performer, a lovely show, and a festival favourite for the past 2 decades.
The venue is open from 10:30am, serving food from 12-3pm and 6-10pm. Happy Hour from 5-7pm!
