Friction & The Roots Drivers + Nanofish Dippers + Fenomeno Show

September 2, 2016 @ 9:00 pm - September 3, 2016 @ 2:00 am

Friction is known for his irresistable mix of Reggae, Afropop and Caribbean vibes. Backed up by his strong band The Roots Drivers, this leads to unforgettable performances.

Friction is a young, unstoppable artist coming from one of Ghana’s big ghettos, whose talent and determination have led to many achievements so far. He is the founder and former frontman of one of Ghana’s most popular Hiplife-groups, VIP. Over the past years he has been the support act of reggae legends such as I Jah Man Levi and Morgan Heritage, and his music is being played worldwide; from TV stations such as MTV Base to Jamaican radio stations.

The Nanofish Dippers are a 9 piece ska and reggae band from Berlin, founded by the members of a jazz combo who realized that instead of listening to The Specials, Seeed, Bob Marley and The Slackers all day they should use their jazz training and improvisational skills to dive head-first into offbeat music themselves and leave it to others to go mental over figuring out whether the style was dub or rap!

That was 10 years ago. Since then, rooted in Berlin’s alternative subculture, the Nanofish Dippers have played the city’s venues big and small, crossed paths with local legends such as The Magic Touch, toured Russia from Moscow to the Black Sea, composed the (back-then) “problem disctrict” Neukölln’s hymn and played festivals not all of which were sued afterwards by retired police officers. As if their Roots Reggae and Ska style hadn’t been weird enough to begin with, the Nanofish Dippers keep picking up new musical influences along their ways through Spain and Corea, Mexico and Italy, California and Vietnam, inspired by Funk and HipHop, Swing and Latin-American Music. This is their London premiere!
