Emma Lohan at the Magic Garden
July 10 @ 7:00 pm - 12:00 amFree
Irish songwriter Emma Lohan grew up in a small village on the edge of the
Atlantic Ocean. A classically trained pianist, she studied rhythm and melody in West Africa. In 2010 she completed a Masters in Community Music and afterwards began writing and recording her critically acclaimed debut album ‘Black Atlantic’ with Manawax Studios in East London (released 2018). She divides her time between London, Ireland, and the Balearics where she creates dreamy melodic folk pop reminiscent of Laurie Anderson and Nils Frahm.
She is currently completing her second album “The Fish and Bird Symphony.” An improvised symphony performed in two parts ‘Fish” and ‘Bird’ combining minimal & folk music and field recordings through the medium of loop pedals.
Well known on the Irish and UK festival folk scene, she has played stages in The Electric Picnic, Glastonbury, Body and Soul and Knockanstockan. She is part of the Citóg Records label, Sofar Sounds, The Nest Collective; played on RTE Radio 1, Hoxton Radio, Resonance FM and has been featured on Indie and More, Folk Radio, Fluttertone and Fjällräven playlists
“Emma Lohan’s lyrics are the pleasant harmony of a tough adolescence and joyful adult explorations, her voice is as sweet as it is melancholic and her music is both gently euphoric and heartbreakingly poignant.” – New Pope
“Emma’s fusion of folk and romance combine beautifully here, making ‘Three Sparrows’ a charming, gentle listen.” – Get in Her Ears
