A live-stream concert by multi-award winning ensemble Don Kipper.
Don Kipper are the multi-award winning ensemble led by the formidable Greek-Serbian singer Dunja Botic. Driven by an explosive rhythm section they create a powerful sound drawing from modern electronic Romani club music and bone-deep rural folk traditions. Together, their unique sound has become both a blazing homage to the folk cultures they love, and a fresh take on global dance music.
Since 2013, we have performed as the BBC Introducing act at WOMAD released our first three albums, been featured on BBC Radio 3 and the BBC World Service, played two European Tours, and won the titles of both the Moshe Beregovski Award for best Klezmer Newcomers and World Music Network’s Battle of the Bands. They have also been nominated for Best Fusion Act in the Songlines World Music Awards 2019.
From their beginning in 2013 as a Klezmer band, Don Kipper have always been propelled by the deeply rooted music traditions of the Balkans and Mediterranean. Today, they are super-charging these traditions, steeping their music in bass heavy beats, electronic sounds and synths.
