Ready Fox Reggae Presents: Channel One + Brigadier JC + Ramon Judah
January 8, 2016 @ 9:00 pm - January 9, 2016 @ 2:00 am
In 1979, Mikey Dread and his brother Jah T began to play at blues parties and local dances having spent many years under the watchful eye of their father, owner operator of the famous Admiral Bailey Sound. They chose the name Channel One in homage to the legendary Jamaican record label of the same name whose tunes featured heavily in those early selections. Inspired by Bob Marley’s belief in uniting people through reggae music, Mikey was keen to introduce new people to dub reggae music and started touring around universities, where he secured a solid fan base.
Channel One’s mission is to break down barriers via reggae music, they have achieved this by playing new venues, new festivals and different countries, taking their unique sound to Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Turkey and all over Europe. Channel One also celebrated 30 consecutive years at the Notting Hill Carnival making them one of the “must see” soundsystems for attendees to Europe’s biggest street festival.
Top producer Brigadier JC and reggae legend Ramon Judah join forces!
Ramon Judah comes from a musical tradition – his father Sugar was an early mentor to the Beatles and Ramon was influenced by early soundsystem culture and was singing in the dancehall at an early age. He then travelled the world singing in reggae bands everywhere from New Zealand to Chicago! He finally settled in London and became the host and singer to the now legendary Dub Club where he has worked with everyone on the UK dub scene! He has sung on many sounds over the years including Jah Youth and more recently as the the main host and vocalist for the popular Reggae Roast nights.
Originally from France but now based in London, Brigadier JC is a new generation Roots producer. He lived in Ireland for years where he developed his production skills while playing tonnes of shows alongside some of the biggest names in the scene at festivals and club nights around Europe and beyond.
Over the years he’s collaborated with many of UK’s most talented and sought after artists with productions dropping on a variety of labels. His productions are a blend of old and new. As an avid roots records collector, he’s deeply inspired by the sound of Channel 1 in the 70s while always keeping at the edge of what’s coming out of the UK.
The last few years have seen him play headline slots at festivals and clubs in France, Poland, Brazil, the Balkans and the UK.
