Drawing their inspiration and energy from the golden age of 1970s’ Nigerian, Ghanaian and Ethiopian dancefloors, Agbeko command a wealth of powerful sing-along originals and unique arrangements of Afrobeat and ethiojazz rarities. Expect punchy horns, choppy guitars and wailing organs, all underpinned by a powerful groove, infectious enthusiasm and a healthy dose of sub-standard dancing.
Since their formation in 2015, Agbeko have enjoyed enthusiastically received performances at festivals including Secret Garden Party, Green Man, Kendal Calling, Tramlines and at the Manchester Jazz Festival. Airplay on US online radio shows followed, along with plans next summer for their first foray onto mainland Europe. They are currently working towards the release of their first record in early 2017.
London’s finest young talent collaborating with Fela Kuti (Egypt 80) and Baba Maal musicians. Sharing life lessons and music to create Afrobeat with a Landan twang.
The project began in 2008 as a studio project. After 2 years of informally recording ideas and inviting musicians to their studio to turn shared life experiences into songs, an evocative collection of music was spawned that was crying out for a big band to play.
Since January 2012 Afrodizzie has turned from a studio project to a fully operational conglomerate of like-minded individuals who meet to offload their ‘High-Life’, ‘Soukous’ and ‘Afrobeat’ compositions.
In 2014 Afrodizzie released their debut album “Masta Copy” (Kanuga Records) and the Single “Solid” (CME Records). After an extended break, the band is now preparing to return to the stage with a smashing new live show!
DJ Stirzaker (Loki DJs, Slamboree) loves nothing more than to tangle you into impossible shapes with an impressively eclectic selection of bass-heavy tracks! He’ll be on deck duty till 2am.
The venue is open from 10:30am, serving food from 12-10pm
